Soldiers Rd Portraits success story launches new Oompher web series to inspire and motivate young kiwis

At 5pm tonight tune into the launch of Oompher Web Series One to meet the powerful duo behind international Kiwi success story - Soldiers Rd Portraits.
Soldiers Rd Portraits is a unique business that styles and photographs customers for native-inspired vintage portraits. Founders and sisters-in-law Taaniko and Vienna Nordstrom talk to Oompher about taking the business from their small home town of Cambridge to the world.

“The Nordstrom sisters-in-law are an inspiration to every young Kiwi who has had a promising idea and dreamt of where it could take them,” says Oompher host and interviewer Johnson Raela.

“Their story is the first of a powerful eight part Web Series featuring a talented array of young Kiwis who have discovered that something extraordinary can happen when you take a brave step into the unknown.”

In the candid five minute interview, stylist Taaniko reveals that the first time the duo had ever worked together as stylist and photographer was when their first customer sat for his portrait. “It’s a very Kiwi/Māori attitude,” says Taaniko. “We’ll give it a crack, give it a go.”

Now the Nordstrom sisters-in-law can claim fans in New York, Utah, LA and Australia as subjects as they expand their business to the world.

“The first Oompher Web Series continues to deliver on our vision of helping young Kiwis to open their minds to opportunities, act on their dreams, and achieve their own extraordinary - whatever that may be,” says Careers New Zealand Channels and Digital Resources General Manager, Jane Ratcliffe.

“Whether it’s the Nordstrom sisters-in-law, a circus theatre company founder, or a female building apprentice, Web Series One celebrates everyday Kiwis whose stories exemplify the essence of what Oompher is all about - that you don’t have to follow traditional pathways to achieve personal or professional success, and that hard work, resilience and persistence are important life skills to achieving that success.”

What other extraordinary stories does Oompher Web Series One have in-store?

Over the coming eight weeks viewers can go behind the scenes into the lives and stories of comedian, actor and filmmaker Jimi Jackson, entertainer and fakaleiti (transgender) icon Amanaki Prescott, basketball star Brook Ruscoe, intrepid Māori photographer Te Rawhitiroa Bosch, and young caregiver Jarryd Stoneman whose video of him dancing with his 93-year-old great-grandmother received more than seven million views on Facebook.

Viewers can also look forward to hearing from performer and producer of physical and aerial theatre - Eve Gordon, and Charlie Camp - female building apprentice by day and rock-star drummer by night.

Stay tuned each Monday until 26 September for each new episode of Web Series One on Oompher’s Facebook page – facebook.com/OompherTV and YouTube channel -youtube.com/OompherTV.
