Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand Appoints Dr Lynn Mcbain to Its National Executive
The Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Wellington GP Dr Lynn McBain to its National Executive.
“We are fortunate to have secured Dr McBain as a co-opted member of the Society’s National Executive”, says President Graeme Smith.
“The future of pharmacy is in integrated care. It is critical at this point that we have the voice of a general practitioner at our governance table”.
Dr McBain graduated from Dalhousie University in Canada and emigrated to New Zealnd in the 1980s. She is a partner in Brooklyn Medical Centre and Deputy Chair of the Compass Health PHO.
Dr McBain also Chairs the Compass Health Clinical Quality Board and is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Health Care and General Practice at the University of Otago Wellington campus.
Dr McBain was awarded the honour of Distinguished Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of GPs in 2011.
“This is an opportunity to progress understanding between the professions” says Dr McBain . “I am really looking forward to gaining new insights into the issues facing pharmacy”.
Dr McBain will formally take up her position as a co-opted member of the Society’s National Executive in February 2017 following a 5 month sabbatical in Canada.
“During her sabbatical Dr McBain will take the opportunity to study primary care in British Columbia, Ontario and Nova Scotia” says Mr Smith. “Pharmacists in these provinces play a wider part in primary care than we are used to seeing in New Zealand.
Dr McBain’s experiences in Canada will be very useful for furthering the society’s objectives around integrated care with the primary objective of better patient outcomes.
