22 July 2016
Chapman Tripp consultant Craig Elliffe has been awarded a Doctorate from the University of Cambridge.
Elliffe compiled an extensive submission, including his work on the subject of international tax law and tax avoidance, such as his recent book International and Cross-Border Taxation in New Zealand, alongside numerous journal articles.
Elliffe also undertook a question and answer oral examination in Cambridge by two leaders in the field - Dr John Avery-Jones, a retired Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Tax and Chancery Chamber) and Peter Harris, a Professor in Tax Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Cambridge, and Director of Studies and Fellow of Churchill College.
Elliffe also met the eligibility standard of having a previous degree from the prestigious university with his LLM (Hons) at Cambridge completed shortly after finishing a conjoint BCom/LLB (Hons) at Otago.
Elliffe specialises in corporate, international tax and financing transactions, with specific expertise in taxation consulting in technology and electronic commerce, international tax, restructuring and cross border transactions.
He is also a Professor of Taxation Law and Policy at the University of Auckland – and Director of the Master of Taxation Studies, the premier qualification for postgraduate taxation in New Zealand.
Elliffe is planning to be capped at a ceremony in the United Kingdom early 2017, a date which will allow him to also attend a meeting of the International Fiscal Association (IFA).
