New Zealand's Leading Arbitrators Named in LawFuel "Arb Star" List
LawFuel New Zealand - The law news site LawFuel has released the names of New Zealand's leading arbitrators in its 2016 "Arb Star" list, naming former High Court Judge David Williams QC as the top arbitrator in the country.
Published for the second time, the list provides the names of the country's top 10 arbitrators, of whom three are former
judges, including Sir Ian Barker and Robert Fisher QC.
The growth in mediation and arbitration work has been strong in recent years and a significant number of ex-pat kiwi lawyers are also making their mark as arbitrators overseas, including a number of past or present Clifford Chance partners such
as Audley Sheppard, vice president of the London Court of Arbitration and international law firm Quinn Emanuel partner Stephen Jagush who is vice president of the firm's international arbitration practice.
One of the highly successful women in the group is former Russell McVeagh partner Wendy Miles QC, who is now a partner in London of leading US litigation firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP.
LawFuel also reports on the new role in arbitration developed by former Solicitor General Michael Heron, QC who has developed an online dispute resolution service designed to connect those seeking mediation or arbitration help
with expert mediators and arbitrators.
Mr Heron resigned his position as Solicitor General last year and now practises as a barrister in Auckland, but has
become intrigued by the possibilities offered by the digital world permitting a more collaborative approach to the
delivery of justice.
