Tips for surviving July’s weather bomb – AA
Insurance
Auckland, 13 July, 2016 – With
expected severe gales, heavy rain and even snow forecast
today and tomorrow for many parts of the country, AA
Insurance has some tips to keep you and your property safe
during the wild weather.
· Make sure
you, your family and pets are safe and in a dry, warm
area
· Secure or move your outdoor furniture
inside
· Unplug appliances that may be affected
by electrical power surges - if power is lost unplug major
appliances
· Pull curtains and drapes over
windows to prevent injury from shattered or flying
glass
· Do not attempt to repair any damage
until it is safe to do so
· If it’s safe,
place a tarpaulin over any areas where the roof is leaking
· Keep your damaged items if you can or take
photos – this is useful to confirm what needs
replacing
· Don’t drive unless you absolutely
need to. If your vehicle has been damaged or suffered
flooding it may be unsafe to drive
· Call your
insurance company as soon as possible to report any damage
to your property, especially if you need emergency
repairs.
“For every big storm, AA Insurance
receives at least one trampoline related claim,” says
Amelia Macandrew, Customer Relations Manager, AA Insurance.
“So before the bad weather reaches your part of the
country, tie down your trampoline as well as any other
large, heavy objects like BBQs and garden furniture, or put
them safely in the garage. You don’t want them bouncing
around damaging your property, or that of your
neighbours’.
“And while it’s important to think safety first, customers who are able to assess any damage to their property should give us a call. There’s no rush to make a claim, but the sooner you contacts us, the sooner we can help.”
