Virtual Holidays Now A Reality As Flight Centre NZ Introduces New Technology
Flight Centre New Zealand has launched a virtual reality experience, offering customers the chance to immerse and virtually transport themselves to a destination of their choice. Powered by Samsung’s Gear VR headsets, users will be able to virtually scuba dive at The Great Barrier Reef, admire the bright lights of Tokyo, wander through the Ancient Town of Hoi An and ride the Tower of Terror at Dreamworld, without leaving the store.
Virtual reality creates intense moments and rich, enveloping experiences to transform the way consumers can view the world. Brands are increasingly utilising virtual reality to educate and inspire their customers and Flight Centre is the first travel retailer in New Zealand to introduce such technology into stores.
The Gear VR virtual reality headsets create a 360 panoramic experience, that users can explore using head movements to change their viewing perspective. Flight Centre will launch its virtual reality experience with four destinations; Hoi An in Vietnam, Tokyo in Japan and Cairns and the Gold Coast in Australia, with more destinations in the pipeline.
Flight Centre NZ managing director, David Coombes, says of the initiative, "the introduction of this new technology is really exciting, it allows our customers to take a digital step inside destinations around the globe, including ones they may never have considered. It really helps to enhance the dreaming and planning stage of their travel journey.
"It’s all part of Flight Centres plan to provide customers with seamless end-to-end travel experiences that begin instore.”
He adds, “the virtual reality experience can also be used as a key sales tool, empowering Flight Centre travel experts with first-hand knowledge of the destinations they are promoting to their customers.”
Flight Centre will be using the Samsung Gear VR headset paired with the Samsung Galaxy S7 to deliver the virtual reality experience.
Flight Centre’s virtual reality experience will be available in-store at Flight Centre Queen Street in Auckland from Thursday June 16th.
