Fert price drop goes some way to relieving pressure

Ballance Agri-Nutrient’s latest round of price drops will go some way to relieving pressure on farmers looking to make the most of home-grown feed this season.

The farm nutrient co-operative announced a significant reduction in key products including SustaiN, Urea and DAP, effective today, 14 June.

The new pricing would see SustaiN go from $554 to $523 per tonne, Urea from $495 to $475, and DAP from $840 to $799, with reductions flowing through to product blends.

Ballance CEO Mark Wynne said that nitrogen remains the cheapest form of feed on farm, and the price reductions meant the co-op could help its farmers produce more home-grown feed at an even lower cost. Arable and sheep farmers would benefit from the new pricing along with dairy farmers.

“DAP is a core component of most crop fertiliser recommendations and this price drop ahead of the cropping season will assist with growing supplementary feed as economically as possible.

“The lower cost of DAP is also of value to farmers looking for nitrogen and a top up of phosphate on twin and triplet lambing country to help get lambs away earlier."

Mr Wynne said the co-op was able to pass these savings on to its customers due to weak global nitrogen prices on the back of high global inventories and increased Chinese supply capacity.
