A new partnership between Federated Farmers and Perpetual Guardian will encourage members to plan for the future and ensure stability in rural communities through responsible succession planning.
Federated Farmers president Dr William Rolleston says Federated Farmers actively forms partnerships to ensure members have access to important and relevant services.
"Perpetual Guardian is the leading statutory trustee business in New Zealand. It is a highly credible entity with a true understanding of matters affecting those in rural areas and we are certain Federation members will benefit greatly from this alignment," Dr Rolleston said.
"Succession planning is a simple process that can mean a lot less pain later. Perpetual Guardian works to educate and provide people with access to affordable estate planning services. This is a crucial service when we consider half of adult Kiwis do not have a valid and up-to-date Will.
"We are very aware that farmers need support with estate planning, especially as many farms are long-standing family holdings. We know of cases in which farmers have entrusted the role of trustee or executor to a neighbour or a friend. Parties are not aware of the potential risk and legal implications of such a responsibility. There are a number of legal requirements of the trustee of a trust or executor of a Will to ensure that the wishes of a deceased person are met and assets managed or distributed appropriately.
"Perpetual Guardian founder, Andrew Barnes said: "We have been providing rural Kiwis with advice for generations and we are proud to take our association with farmers to a new and more effective level of engagement."
"Farmers contribute greatly to the New Zealand economy. If we can provide stability for the families that keep our agricultural sector afloat, we can provide New Zealand with a bright future. Planning for succession gives peace of mind so that all important day-to-day work can continue."
Perpetual Guardian and Federated Farmers’ three-year partnership will include shared events through which members, and the wider community, can access services and advice from 40 estate planning specialists across 16 branches.
