Kiwis Are Packing their Bags this Queens Birthday Weekend
According to Cheapflights.co.nz, New Zealanders love a long weekend getaway and are planning to pack their bags to make the most of the upcoming public holiday.
Nathan Graham, Regional Sales Manager ANZ at Cheapflights, said travellers are taking a carpe diem approach to long weekends.
“Ahead of the June break, we have seen a huge increase in searches for flights departing on the Friday evening or Saturday morning and returning on the Monday evening. This includes those travelling to the warmer climes of Nadi (74 per cent spike in searches) as well as those searching for favourite Australian cities – Sydney (242 per cent increase in searches) and Melbourne (117 per cent spike).
“The trend is also visible throughout the year with Kiwis regularly searching for three day getaways. From June through October, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are the preferred international destinations for an extended weekend, while Auckland takes out top honours domestically.”
“More and more Kiwis are taking shorter yet more frequent breaks, highlighting the trend of employees wanting to escape from busy workloads to refresh and recharge, and a growing eagerness to see places within our own ‘backyard’.”
Top five destinations for three day weekends over the coming months are:
1. Sydney
2. Melbourne
3. Brisbane
4. Auckland
5. Wellington
