Spark’s 4G mobile and Wireless Broadband coverage takes over Southland
Residents and visitors to the southernmost parts of New Zealand can now do more things with their mobile devices, as Spark has rolled out 4G across existing cell sites in the Southland region. Spark has recently upgraded 26 cell sites to 4G, with Ohai and Otautau Exchange to follow next month.
4G technology allows customers to enjoy better access to Spark mobile coverage, making it even easier for people to share, upload, download and stream content such as YouTube videos, Spotify and sport, faster and more reliably than ever before.
Spark’s 4G coverage across rural Southland utilises the 700MHz radio spectrum, which means customers who have previously experienced slow internet speeds on a fixed line may now be able to sign up to Spark’s Wireless Broadband service.
General Manager of Networks for Spark, Colin Brown says the vastly improved mobile network will allow locals and visitors to the area to stay constantly connected with family, friends and colleagues.
“4G on the 700MHz spectrum is ideal for the rural areas of New Zealand, as the signal can travel further from the cell site than other frequencies. Our Wireless Broadband product uses the 4G mobile network and allows customers fast, reliable and affordable internet access. This is key for people who currently lack access to an adequate fixed internet service,” said Mr Brown.
“We’re always looking to improve access to mobile coverage across New Zealand and we’re excited that Southland is now able to access the benefits of 4G. Southland is New Zealand’s ultimate nature and outdoors destination, with thousands of tourists travelling throughout the region each year. Customers will now be able to share it all via their mobile phones faster than ever before” said Mr Brown.
With the recent news that Woosh has gone in to voluntary administration, some customers may be reviewing their broadband services. The 4G rollout means over 40,000 Southland homes and businesses are now able to enjoy fast and reliable internet via Spark’s Wireless Broadband network. Customers can check if Wireless Broadband is available to them by entering their address at http://www.spark.co.nz/shop/internet/wirelessbroadband/ or registering their interest atwww.spark.co.nz/gowireless.
Customers will need to have a 4G-capable mobile device to connect to 4G, or a new modem to access Wireless Broadband.
