Celebrating Excellence in Bed & Breakfast Hosting

Celebrating Excellence in Bed & Breakfast Hosting

Whakaipo Lodge, Taupo, has been awarded the 2016 Excellence Award by the Bed & Breakfast Association NEW ZEALAND. The awards celebrate excellence in hospitality in the bed and breakfast and hosted accommodation sector. They provide a benchmark of excellence and inspiration to other bed and breakfast hosts along with showcasing the best of New Zealand hospitality within our accommodation sector. Kathryn Officer, President, said “the Awards honour, recognise, encourage and reward our members who are the very best bed and breakfast properties in New Zealand”.

“Judging the award winner was extremely difficult due to the very high calibre of entrants,” said Kathryn. However, in the end the three judges (Chris Roberts, CEO, Tourism Industry Aotearoa; Kathryn Officer, President, Bed & Breakfast Association and Rayma Jenkins, Assessment Coordinator, Bed & Breakfast Association) all agreed on the top three place winners.

“Angie and Garth London, owners of Whakaipo Lodge, are relative newcomers to the bed and breakfast industry. However, they are a young, energetic couple and I believe that with the lofty goals they have set for themselves they have created a recipe for success. They run their bed and breakfast lodge with true entrepreneurial flair. Exceeding their turnover expectations in such a short timeframe is truly amazing and all credit must be given to them for their professionalism, passion for hosting and sheer hard work and dedication resulting in a fabulous experience for their guests,” said Kathryn.

Sharing equal position as runners up were two five star luxury bed and breakfast properties: A Culinary Experience Luxury Bed and Breakfast, Nelson, with hosts Joe and Kay Waller; and Riverview Terrace, Wanaka, with hosts Pam and Peter Higgins. "Both these properties are absolute stars and provide their guests with the ultimate experience in hosted accommodation,” said Kathryn.

The calibre of all entrants was extremely high and reflected the quality of bed and breakfast properties available throughout New Zealand.
