Charges laid in relation to works carried out at Waihi dam

Response to HBRC announcement regarding charges laid in relation to works carried out at Waihi dam

Eastland Group today received verbal notification of Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s decision to lay charges in relation to works carried out at the Waihi dam. The repairs were required after the dam’s sluice gates were damaged during severe weather in September 2015.

Chief executive Matt Todd said: “We received verbal notification of the charges today so we haven’t seen documentation of the charges yet. Once we receive these we will need time to consider our response under the Resource Management Act.”

“In the meantime we continue to work with HBRC in good faith to refine and adapt the current resource consent conditions to ensure the best possible operation and management of the Waihi hydroelectricity scheme.”

Eastland Group is not in a position to make any further comment as the matter is now before the Court.
