Share the Road Safely with Big Trucks - Trucking Safety
Trucking Road Safety program to show you can Share the Road Safely with Big Trucks
The NZ Trucking Association has developed a program to help change road behavior and increase road safety.
NZ Trucking Association is pleased to announce that it has launched a Road Safety program designed to educate road users about “Sharing the Road Safely with Big Trucks”. It supports the Association’s commitment to represent and support trucking related businesses in New Zealand and its desire to protect the lives and property of every road user.
The program has been designed to educate and sensitize other road users on some important factors to consider when sharing the road with big trucks. According to recent statistics, it has been noted that of the accidents involving trucks that result in a fatality, most of the fatalities are not the truck occupants but rather the other road users.
Recently the NZ Trucking Association has been working with Cycle advocacy groups including CAN and Spokes in order to educate the community on cycle safety around big trucks. This new program is indeed a major milestone because it is engaging and pictorial, thereby making it easier by helping participants understand the issues effectively.
The program has the following unique features:
• Attractive large engaging images of real life situations
• Key safety tips on each image, written in a way that they are understood by all ages
• Play area which features a miniature NZ roadway and trucks
• Take home Sharing the Road Safely with Big Trucks booklet
• Talking truck videos
• A real life working truck attending each presentation
The program is a road show that will be set up at schools, community gatherings, trucking companies and events. Participants will be able to walk through the program and get a greater understanding of how to Share the Road Safely with Big Trucks.
NZ Trucking Association is engaging with trucking companies inviting them to join the program to educate their drivers that they are the professionals on the road.
“The ultimate goal of the program is to reduce the number of truck related fatalities and injuries on the road” said Dave Boyce CEO NZ Trucking Association.
The program has created a unique opportunity for key stake holders and businesses to get involved as the program is delivered nationwide.
