Easter, tourism and marketing propels Northland to the top Commercial Accommodation figures for March
Having the Easter holidays in March, continued increase in tourism visitors and the resurgence of marketing has propelled Northland to the top of the commercial accommodation figures for March 2016.
“Northland had the highest percentage and volume increase in the Country for March and it is a very good result of the region reflecting three main factors,” says Northland Inc General Manager, Regional Promotions and Tourism Paul Davis.
The Commercial Accommodation figures were released today by Statistic New Zealand and Northland’s figures showed an increase of 30.2% for March compared to 2015 with guest nights up from 163,618 to 213,071.
In March this year he Kaipara district made the most significant gain with guest nights up 68.6%, followed by the Far North with a 30.6% and then Whangarei with 19.7% increase.
“Part of the reason for the increase is that Easter 2016 was in March while in 2015 it was in April,” Mr Davis says.
“There were other reasons as well that were noticeable such as a strong performance in domestic travel over Easter and a continued increase in international visitors to Northland which is in line with the current trends for the industry.”
He said the other significant reason for Northland performing well was that marketing of tourism products was making a big difference to attracting visitors to the North.
“There has also been a resurgence in marketing activity by the private sector and Northland Inc and that has also had an impact on improving the visitor figures for the month,” Mr Davis says.
