2 Cheap Cars decides to pull Anzac Day ads
New Zealand’s major second hand car retailer 2 Cheap Cars has decided to pull its television advertising for Anzac Day specials after objections from the RSA.
The advertising had been approved by the television commercial standards authority (CAB) however the RSA were not happy with the advertising.
2 Cheap Cars marketing manager Jared Donkin says it was never the intention to offend anyone and after hearing the concerns of the RSA it was decided to remove the television advertising.
“2 Cheap Cars is known for its attention grabbing style of ads, but deliberately offending people is not what we want. We are no different from other New Zealanders in having the utmost respect for Anzac Day and the service men and women who have fought for their country,” he says.
Mr Donkin says he is disappointed that the controversy has arisen.
“We truly believed we had taken all the steps we needed to ensure the ads were acceptable. We even took the additional steps of trying to make contact with the RSA via their website to ensure they were happy with the ads before they were broadcast, but unfortunately these messages were not seen. We have since managed to contact the RSA and made our apologies.”
Mr Donkin says 2 Cheap Cars will arrange to have replacement ads run in the place of the Anzac Day advertising for the remainder of the long weekend.
“We are hoping people appreciate our gesture of goodwill in cancelling the advertising and there is no lasting fallout from the original advertising campaign.”
