Singapore Airlines Increases Summer Services to Christchurch
Singapore Airlines today announced it will increase services to Christchurch from 23 November 2016 through to 06 February 2017 in response to strong demand to and from the South Island.
During the summer peak travel period, Singapore Airlines will operate 10 round-trip flights per week with the supplementary flights adding 8,130 seats into Christchurch during its period of operation.
The additional services mean Singapore Airlines will achieve a new milestone in its 30 year history servicing Christchurch, flying 396 flights into the South Island in a single year.
General Manager, Singapore Airlines New Zealand, Simon Turcotte, said demand for services into Christchurch over summer continues to grow each year.
“Over the 2015-16 summer we operated 28 supplementary flights and one charter, adding more than 7,850 seats into Christchurch,” Mr Turcotte said.
“Next summer, due to increasing demand we will boost the number of supplementary flights and seats available, providing greater opportunities for New Zealanders to see the world and more inbound tourism for New Zealand.
“The increase in services is further evidence of our ongoing commitment to Christchurch and the South Island in a year in which we’ll celebrate 30 years flying into this great city.
“Christchurch continues to be an extremely important part of our global route network and we are very grateful for the support we receive from Christchurch International Airport, travel agents in the area and the wider South Island community.”
The additional Christchurch flights will operate as SQ296/SQ295 and will be serviced by Singapore Airlines’ fleet of refitted 777-200ER aircraft, offering 26 Business Class and 245 Economy Class seats and providing increased connections through Singapore to the wider Singapore Airlines and SilkAir network.

About Singapore Airlines
When Singapore Airlines was formed in 1972, it operated a modest fleet of 10 aircraft to just 22 cities in 18 countries. With a commitment to fleet modernisation, product and service innovation and market leadership, the airline quickly distinguished itself as a world-class carrier.
Today, Singapore Airlines operates a modern passenger fleet of more than 100 aircraft with an average age of 7 years 4 months, covering a total of 60 destinations in 33 countries. In April 2016 Amsterdam will be the inaugural destination for its new-generation Airbus A350 fleet. Düsseldorf will join Singapore Airlines’ route network in July 2016 when non-stop flights are introduced from Singapore.
The network will be further extended on 20 September 2016 when Singapore Airlines becomes the first international carrier to fly from Singapore to Canberra and on to Wellington. It will be the first time the capital cities of Australia and New Zealand have been directly connected, with four flights a week. It will also be the first time a non trans-Tasman carrier has operated to more than two points in New Zealand.
Singapore Airlines currently operates 14 round-trip flights from Auckland and Christchurch to Singapore per week.
In January 2015 it launched an alliance with Air New Zealand, to codeshare services between New Zealand and Singapore.
When transiting through Changi Airport, Singapore Airlines Australasian customers are provided with vouchers to the value of S$40 for use within the airport. Customers also have access to an expanded Singapore Stopover Holiday package, all of which goes towards making their journey an enjoyable one.
