Yealands Launches NZ’s First Vineyard Tour Guide App

Yealands Launches NZ’s First Vineyard Tour Guide App

The first kiwi wine app that allows the user to take a self-guided vineyard tour - and take in Yealands’ famous White Road hot-spots.

One of the only vineyards to actually let visitors drive through its vineyard, wine innovators, Yealands Wine Group have released a mobile application that allows visitors to its Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley, Marlborough the unique opportunity of taking their own self-guided vineyard tour.

Yealands Estate White Road Tour app allows local and international visitors to take themselves on the 40 minute, 7.5KM vineyard tour and stop at any of the 10 points of interest to experience first-hand the industry innovations and carbon-zerocertTM initiatives that epitomise the brand’s philosophy to “Think Boldly, Tread Lightly and never say it can’t be done”.

Founder of the Yealands Wine Group, Peter Yealands explains, “Our intention with this app is to enhance our visitors’ overall experience by engaging with them as they go on their own personal tour. It allows users to go at their own pace and focus on their particular interests, be it our breath taking views of the Cook Strait or many of the sustainable farm practices that we implement. We want visitors to leave having truly lived and breathed our philosophy and seen first-hand what Yealands is all about.”

The highlights along the tour include:

• Farm Park and Vine Prunings:

Ducks, chickens, Kune Kune pigs, yaks and Babydoll sheep assist with keeping vegetation down and reduce mowing frequency. Yealands is the only vineyard worldwide to bale its vines. It bales approximately 5% of its total prunings yearly before burning them in purpose built boilers which convert the heat back into energy that is utilised in the heating and cooling processes of winemaking. Yealands has almost eliminated LPG usage and reduced carbon emissions by over 200 tonnes per year.

• Music in the Vines

Solar power assists in playing classical music to the vines with the effects showing that plant tendrils have responded to different wavelengths from varied music! The chickens also lay their eggs up to 18% larger!

• Look out points

A variety of look out points provide visitors with stunning 180 degree vistas across the Cook Strait. Notable highlights include Cape Campbell Lighthouse, the South Island’s most North Eastern tip and Mt Tapuae-o-uenuku, the tallest mountain in the South Island at just under 3000 metres in height, famously known for its use by Sir Edmond Hilary as his training ground in 1940

The new application, available online through the iPhone App store and Google Play Store features:

• Real-time content updates

• GPS-based alerts to give users a notification based on where they physically are on the tour

• The use of ‘Open Street Map’ giving the added benefit of being able to add data and details such as buildings, vineyards and even picnic tables so that users are well and truly aware of their surroundings

• A user-friendly guide and in-depth detail, including text and videos of all 10 features of the vineyard tour
