Site Safe welcomes new Act

Site Safe CE Alison Molloy is welcoming the new Health and Safety at Work Act officially implemented today, 4 April 2016.

"There has been a lot of misinformation about the new Act. Our message to SME's is don't panic! If you were doing the right thing under the old Act then the changes you need to make are probably minimal.

For those who may have been neglecting their health and safety obligations then this is a great opportunity to start today taking steps to make sure your people go home safe at the end of every day."

Ms Molloy says the new legislation will have implications for businesses in the construction industry.

"The new law sees a shift from do I have a responsibility, to what is my responsibility - it recognises that everyone has a role to play in health and safety."

For directors Ms Molloy says that managing their organisations health and safety risk will now become as important as managing financial and reputational risk and it will need to receive the same focus.

"Site Safe is here to help support the industry through these changes. This is an opportunity for us to take a step forward and focus on what's really important - keeping people safe."
