Enphase Energy Opens New Research & Development Facility in New Zealand
• US$4.4 million
investment to develop and test future energy technologies
for global market.
• Enphase New Zealand to make a
significant contribution in the development of future
generations of the Enphase Home Energy Solution.
• New
R&D facility to be Enphase Energy’s second largest
engineering office in the world.
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand – March 22, 2016 – Enphase Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENPH), a global energy technology company, today announced that it has made a USD$4.4 million investment to expand its global research and development (R&D) facility in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Located in Wigram, Christchurch, the new R&D facility was officially opened today by the Hon. Steven Joyce MP, Minister of Science and Innovation. Gareth Hughes MP, Green Party of New Zealand and Dr Megan Woods for Wigram, were in attendance at the event.
This new facility will allow Enphase to conduct global compliance testing and verification capabilities for its microinverters and expand on the future development of the Enphase AC Battery™, a modular energy storage system that integrates with the Enphase Home Energy Solution. The facility also has the capacity to allow for future expansion as the company assembles its second largest engineering workforce in the world outside of its lead engineering team in Petaluma, California.
New Zealand and Australia will be the first countries in the world where Enphase will launch its new Home Energy Solution from Winter 2016. The Enphase Home Energy Solution is an integrated solution that combines solar generation, energy control, and energy storage, offering homeowners a plug-and-play AC Battery to store energy generated from their solar photovoltaic (PV) system.
“Over the years, our engineering team in Christchurch has strategically contributed toward the design, development and testing of Enphase microinverters sold in Asia-Pacific and Europe,” said Greg Steele, vice president of engineering at Enphase. “By making a further investment in New Zealand, Enphase is now poised for future growth as we continue to build a world-class engineering team that will work in tandem with the team in California to develop future generations of the Enphase Home Energy Solution.”
Enphase established its presence in Christchurch in 2011, and its power electronics engineering team was originally involved in the design, development, and testing of microinverters bound for the Asia-Pacific and European markets. Working together with Enphase’s engineering headquarters in Petaluma, the Christchurch Engineering and Design Centre provided its expertise in the development of the fourth, fifth and now the sixth generation of Enphase microinverters. The Christchurch team’s charter will now include the development of future generations of the Enphase Home Energy Solution in line with the company’s product roadmap.
“New Zealand is an important market for the Enphase Home Energy Solution. As a country with a significant proportion of renewable energy in its grid electricity, relatively low solar uptake and a tremendous desire for energy independence, we’ve observed a keen interest from New Zealanders in the upcoming launch of our home energy solution,” said Nathan Dunn, managing director for Enphase Energy Asia-Pacific.
The Enphase Home Energy Solution, which seamlessly integrates the Enphase AC Battery, Enphase Microinverter System and the company’s award-winning Enlighten monitoring platform, will be available in Winter 2016 to solar installers through authorised distributors Solar Partners NZ and YHI.
