Māori Television complies with Warner Bros cessation demand

Māori Television has complied with a Warner Bros cessation demand over its innovative Lover Boy vs Lavalava Boy advertising campaign.

A formal notification was received last Thursday to cease and desist the current style of advertising for the new show Game of Bros because of its reference to The Bachelor.

Head of Content Mike Rehu says a decision to pull the billboard and online advertising at the centre of the dispute was made on Friday. “It made business sense to discontinue the campaign rather than risk facing potentially expensive legal action from Warner Bros.

“As a challenger brand, we simply don’t have the resources to face off against a multinational media conglomerate,” Mike says.

“We are now working on alternative promotional and marketing activities to promote Game of Bros to get the message out to audiences.”

Game of Bros is on Māori Television on Thursdays at 8pm. It features 12 Polynesian men who battle for the title of ultimate warrior. Guided by angels, the warriors need to show how well they can compete in the traditional games of their forefathers.

Māori Television’s new season programming goes to air from today.
