The Coffee Club Expands in Christchurch as the City’s Café & Restaurant Scene Continues to Flourish
The Coffee Club New Zealand is getting behind Christchurch’s burgeoning café and restaurant scene with plans to launch
several more stores in the city.
The doors to The Coffee Club Spitfire Square open on 10 March. This comes on the back of two other Christchurch launches
within the last six months, and plans for at least one more The Coffee Club in the area by the end of 2016.
Owners of The Coffee Club Spitfire Square, Nick Jenkins and Tracy Tai are both locals. They are looking forward to being
part of the community, and contributing to the on-going development and success of the region.
“We live in western Christchurch and have noticed the rapid growth and development on this side of the city
post-earthquake, and the lack of cafés around the airport campus. We see huge potential and that is what attracted us to
the site,” explains Tracy.
“The opening marks the start of a new and exciting journey for both of us. We have recruited a fantastic team of people,
and together we look forward to providing our community with good food, great service and excellent coffee. We’re hoping
our customers will enjoy the menu we have planned. Along with the usual options, we will also be introducing some chef
specials with seasonal produce to cater to customers during our evening hours.”
The Coffee Club directors, Brad Jacobs and Andy Lucas, are keen for The Coffee Club to have a greater presence in
Christchurch. The recent development of Spitfire Square, one of the city’s newest retail hotspots, provided the team
with the ideal location for their next store.
“There are some very good opportunities for café owners in Christchurch at the moment,” says Brad Jacobs, Co-director
and Property Manager of The Coffee Club New Zealand. “The dining and café culture has evolved at a rapid rate since the
quakes. It’s a very exciting place to be, there’s a great vibe, and customers are getting more and more choice, which is
just fantastic.
“Spitfire Square made perfect sense for us. With its close proximity to the airport, it’s a convenient place to relax
and enjoy good food and coffee while waiting for a flight to arrive. The store also has up-to-date arrival and departure
boards so customers can keep track of their flight. On top of that, there is plenty of free car parking, a rarity near
any international airport, and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It’s the ideal place to catch up with friends and
family.”
The Coffee Club Spitfire Square is located at 530-546 Memorial Avenue, Christchurch. It is open from 6.30am-9pm every
day. Nick and Tracy are also in the process of applying for their liquor license. They hope to offer alcoholic beverage
options for their customers in a month’s time.
The Coffee Club opened its first store in New Zealand in 2005, and has grown rapidly, since then, opening new stores all
over New Zealand. There are now 58 The Coffee Clubs in New Zealand.
