Auckland Airport wins international route marketing award
Auckland Airport is proud to announce that it is the overall winner of the 2016 Routes Asia Marketing Awards.
The Routes Marketing Awards were created in 1997 and annually recognise excellence in airport marketing. They are awarded to airports that provide the best marketing support and services to airlines, and the Asian edition of the awards is voted on by a panel of leading Asia Pacific airlines.
Norris Carter, Auckland Airport’s general manager of aeronautical commercial, says, “Auckland Airport is delighted to receive this award which recognises the results we have achieved from successfully selling Auckland as a destination for international airlines.”
“We have been very focused on developing strong commercial partnerships that deliver sustainable and mutual benefits for both the airport and international airlines that fly here. We have also invested in marketing initiatives in New Zealand and overseas, and invested in market research, especially in relation to the Chinese tourism market.”
“All this is delivering great results. International passenger growth was up 7.6% to 8.5 million in the year to January 2016; more than 500,000 additional seats have been added to the market; and eight airlines have either commenced or announced new services in the past year Air New Zealand, Emirates, American Airlines, Air Asia X, United Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Air China and Philippine Airlines.”
“Our strong international passenger growth is good news for both the tourism industry and the wider New Zealand economy. Sustainably increasing New Zealand’s air connectivity is an important part of the tourism industry’s Tourism 2025 strategy, which targets 6% annual growth and seeks to increase tourism revenue to $41 billion by 2025.”
“Winning the 2016 Routes Asia Marketing Award is further evidence that Auckland Airport is playing its part to drive growth in New Zealand travel, trade and tourism,” says Mr Carter.
The 2016 Routes Asia Marketing Awards were presented in a ceremony in Manila on 7 March 2016. Auckland Airport was also named as the winner of the 2016 Routes Asia Award for an airport with between 4 million and 20 million passengers. As the overall winner of the 2016 Routes Asia Marketing Awards, Auckland Airport has been short-listed for the 2016 World Routes Marketing Awards to be announced in China later this year.
