Investment fund applauds Ryman for including women
in leadership roles
Ryman Healthcare has won praise for recognising the outstanding contribution women make to the company and for promoting women into senior leadership roles.
Ryman has been included in the Pax Ellevate Global Women’s Index Fund – the world’s first investment fund that only invests in companies which advance women in leadership.
Pax Ellevate’s research shows companies that empower and advance women tend to deliver better performance and higher returns to shareholders.
Ryman Healthcare is one of 400 top performing companies around the world considered for investment, and ranked highly for promoting women in top roles.
Ryman
Healthcare Managing Director Simon Challies said it was
great to get Pax Ellevate’s endorsement.
“We employ
people who have a passion for what we do – caring for
older people,’’ Simon Challies said.
“This has come
out of the blue. To be honest we don’t have a gender
diversity policy – we just try and promote our best people
into leadership roles. Age, status or gender have never come
into the equation.’’
Ryman Healthcare employs more
than 4,000 staff and 70 per cent of the company’s 300
senior leaders are women.
Ryman’s board includes Christchurch lawyer Jo Appleyard, who joined as a director in 2009. In 2014 Australia-based director Claire Higgins joined the board.
Ryman’s senior management team includes Operations Manager Barbara Reynen-Rose, Group Sales Manager Debbie McClure and Marketing Manager Jenn Poskitt.
Pax Ellevate is chaired by Sallie Krawcheck, a former senior Wall St banker who is regarded as one of the most influential women in business in the United States.
Sallie Krawcheck’s professional mission is to help women reach their financial and professional goals.
“Our research shows that the companies that promote gender diversity and include women in leadership roles perform better. Simply put, we believe it is smart business to invest in women,’’ Sallie Krawcheck said.
“Ryman Healthcare has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to gender diversity on its board of directors and in executive management.’’
