Which New Zealand Law Firm's Are The Most "Female Friendly"?
LawFuel.com/NewZealand/ - Law News Service - South Island law firms take the kudos for achieving the highest gender parity under LawFuel's latest gender survey to find the most "female friendly" law firm in New Zealand.
Both Duncan Cotterill and Anderson Lloyd achieved the highest ranking among the biggest firms in the country, according to the survey.
The LawFuel gender survey of the most "female-friendly" law firms (based on women partners or directors) shows that the top-ranked firm is Duncan Cotterill with 37 per cent of their partners women (out of 27 in total).
Second was Anderson Lloyd with 33 per cent women and third is Kensington Swan at 31 per cent.
The full rankings can be seen here: http://www.lawfuel.com/newzealand/new-zealands-female-friendly-law-firms-2015-list/
Firms however are demonstrating more intense commitment towards achieving gender parity. Kensington Swan has a working parents policy to generate greater flexibility for staff and supporting them during parental leave.
The policy follows extensive consultation with staff, partners and the firm's 'diversity committee'.
Auckland-based Meredith Connell, who have a 26 per cent ranking at Number 6 on the LawFuel ranking are working towards becoming "the most diverse partnership in a large law firm in New Zealand," according to chair of the firm, Anna Adams.
Ms Adams notes that 52 per cent of the firm's 127 lawyers (as at November 2015) were women and the firm has worked hard in the 'work in progress' towards achieving the highest possible elevation of women to partnership.
The story is not quite so encouraging for some of the other big names in the law however, with Bell Gully, Simpson Grierson and Chapman Tripp all languishing at the bottom of the table.
of the smaller partnerships (10 - 19) partners, the highest ranking at a 47 per cent ranking for women partners is Cavell Leitch, the Christchurch based firm, followed by Auckland-based Martelli McKegg with 37 per cent.
