Landmark $365 million Project to be unveiled on Thursday
Auckland, 7 March 2016 – On Thursday 10th March, Refining NZ which owns and operates the Marsden Point refinery, will formally unveil Te Mahi Hou, one of New Zealand’s biggest
engineering projects in recent years.
Built by local expertise and representing an investment of $365 million. Te Mahi Hou has involved some 1.75 million man
hours and approximately 650 contractors who have fabricated and assembled 6574 tonnes of highly sophisticated new plant
and structural steel over the past three years.
The new CCR (Continuous Catalyst Regeneration) technology Te Mahi Hou has created will increase local production by an
extra 2 million barrels of petrol a year, reduce shut-downs and cut CO2 emissions by around 120,000 tonnes a year.
Te Mahi Hou is key to the growth of Refining New Zealand’s business and will be a valuable revenue generator that will
help ensure the business remains competitive with Asia Pacific refiners.
The formal unveiling is an opportunity for Refining New Zealand to thank the Northland community for their involvement
in the successful completion of the Te Mahi Hou project, reinforcing the refinery’s position as a nationally critical
piece of NZ energy infrastructure.
