Superdiversity Stocktake Forum Brings Together World Class Thought Leader And National Leaders
The Superdiversity Centre for Law, Policy and Business is hosting the inaugural Superdiversity Stocktake Forum in
Auckland and Wellington on 8 and 9 March 2016. The Forum follows on from the launch of the Superdiversity Stocktake:
Implications for Business, Government and New Zealand in November 2015, which has been downloaded over 90,000 times.
The Forum will be opened by the Patron of the Superdiversity Centre, Sir Anand Satyanand and will feature the Centre’s
Chair, Mai Chen, and a world class thought leader on cultural intelligence, Julia Middleton.
Julia will be speaking to New Zealand audience for the first time. Founder of Common Purpose, Julia runs leadership
development programmes around the world, and is author of Cultural Intelligence - CQ: the Competitive Edge for Leaders Crossing Borders. This is a rare opportunity to hear from Julia, who visits New Zealand thanks to the generous support of BNZ. Julia’s
key note will examine “How New Zealand can develop cultural intelligence to lift its economic and social performance.”
Mai Chen will speak on “Leveraging superdiversity to lift business success; Maori and superdiversity; and a legal and
policy framework to consider the implications of superdiversity.”
Key business leaders from the public and private sector will then speak about their journey to make their organisations
or communities fit for New Zealand’s ethnically diverse future including Derek McCormack, Vice Chancellor, Auckland University of Technology; Heather Shotter, Executive Director, Committee for Auckland; Christine Etherington, Director People and Capability and Ian Maxwell, Director Community Service, Auckland Council; Berlinda Chin, Director, Office of Ethnic Communities; Penny Simmonds, CEO, Southern Institute of Technology;Lewis Holden, Deputy Commissioner Auckland, State Services Commission; Claire Huxley, Marketing Director, International Travel College of New Zealand; Carol Brown, CEO, Diversitas; Mitchell Pham, Director, Augen Software Group Ltd; Colleen Ward, Director of CACR (Centre for Applied Cross-Cultural Research), School of Psychology, Victoria University of
Wellington; Anthony Healy, CEO, Bank of New Zealand.
The best practice highlighted by these presentations will be published in a paper, and made available for free at the
Superdiversity Centre website following the Forum.
The Forum will be followed by a special session in Wellington on 9 March, where Julia Middleton will present on how the
public service can help New Zealand develop cultural intelligence to lift our economic and social performance.
