NZ Bus Committed to Fair Wage Increase for Drivers
Auckland, 18 February 2016 - Ahead of Union
strike action tomorrow, NZ Bus wishes to confirm to Auckland
commuters that it is committed to negotiating a real and
sustainable wage increase for its drivers.
NZ Bus Chief Operating Officer Northern Shane McMahon says the company values highly the role of its drivers – reflected by the fact we provide the best terms and conditions in the industry.
“We have listened carefully to what our drivers are wanting, and have proposed to take wages to $20.75 an hour, plus overtime rates,” he says.
“The Unions’ position of an overall 10% increase is unrealistic and unsustainable given the increasingly competitive environment we now operate in.
“We apologise to all those commuters affected by the Union’s strike action, but the Auckland public can be assured it remains our priority to work with the Union leadership, to resolve a satisfactory outcome and to resume normal services as soon as possible,” McMahon says.
