Farmer leaders sought for DairyNZ board

Farmer leaders sought for DairyNZ board

Aspiring directors are being sought for DairyNZ’s Board of Directors.

Farmer leaders are encouraged to apply for two associate director roles which provide an invaluable opportunity to see governance in action.

DairyNZ chair Michael Spaans says the associate directors must be dairy farmers who want to move beyond their farm and into industry leadership.

“We will be looking for candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to their personal and governance development,” says Michael.

“This will be our third year with associate directors for DairyNZ. It’s been a great success for the five who’ve already been through – Elaine Cook is one example of where it can lead.

“As one of our first associate directors, Elaine grabbed the opportunity with both hands and went on to be elected as our newest director last year.

“These positions are about providing experience to future leaders, letting them see first-hand how a board works and what goes into making key decisions. Our board also gets value from having a fresh set of eyes and ears involved – it’s a great way to grow discussion and debate,” says Michael.

Anyone interested in applying for the two DairyNZ associate director positions should be current dairy farmers, have a proven commitment to governance and aspire to be a leader in the dairy industry.

Each DairyNZ associate director will be a non-voting position, appointed for successive six month terms.

To apply, send a covering letter referring to the associate director position and curriculum vitae to: The company secretary, DairyNZ Incorporated, Private Bag 3221, Hamilton 3240 or email lynne.wagstaff@dairynz.co.nz.

Applications close 31 March 2016.
