MainPower announces new leadership team
North Canterbury electricity lines company, MainPower New Zealand Limited, has announced a new leadership team that will guide the company in the next phase of its transformative growth and execution of its customer centric strategy. Three new roles have been created including operations manager, commercial manager and chief information officer.
Chief Executive Bruce Emson, who is championing the organisational change, has crafted a leadership team that can deliver on the company’s customer philosophy. Emson says that this requires a core organisational capability that can anticipate and adapt to new technologies while also having a level of agility to rapidly respond to change.
“The electricity industry is facing a fundamental change driven largely by emerging technologies and advancements in energy storage. Combined with the rise of the prosumer, is it forcing a rethink of how we engage and connect with customers who have far more influence than ever before.
It is an exciting time for the industry but one filled with many challenges. MainPower is by no means the largest electricity distribution business in New Zealand so the decisions we make now will be instrumental in us staying relevant tomorrow” added Emson.
Mark Williamson joins MainPower in the commercial manager role having recently worked as a consultant for metering and related services provider and MainPower subsidiary, VirCom Energy Management Services. His career includes 17 years with Shell Petroleum, most recently based in Singapore, responsible for the commercial structure, operational excellence and compliance of the retail businesses across the Middle East, Asia and Pacific region.
In his role as commercial manager, Williamson will have accountability for enhancing the customer experience along with company performance and ensuring regulatory and compliance requirements are met.
Operations manager Rob Wilson joins MainPower from Easysteel, a member of the Fletcher Building Group. Wilson has spent six years in various roles with Waste Management NZ following a career in the NZ Army as an Officer in the Royal New Zealand Engineers. Wilson will drive the operational vision of MainPower and develop and lead delivery and customer service excellence through increasing operational productivity and improving outcomes to the customer.
Piers Hutchings joins MainPower in the chief information officer role having spent 30 years working in IT related fields, most recently with Ryman Healthcare and the Scenic Hotel Group. Hutchings role, which includes responsibility for the organisation’s information technology systems, will be integral to the customer interface at MainPower.
Additional team changes include health, safety, environment and quality manager Dayle Parris who has decided to pursue other opportunities outside of the organisation. The health and safety role at MainPower will be filled by industry consultant Bob Taylor. Taylor has over 40 years' experience in the electricity and related utility industries, is President of the EEA (Electricity Engineers’ Association) Board, Chairman of the National Committee Live Work (NCLW) and a member of the EEA Industry Safety, Strategy and Policy Group.
