CCT appoints interim chief executive
Experienced tourism professional Vic Allen has been appointed as the interim head of Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism
(CCT).
Mr Allen, who will join CCT in late February as Interim CEO, held senior management roles at Christchurch Airport for 20
years before moving overseas in 2006. He recently returned to Christchurch after a decade working in airport development
and CEO roles in Oman.
He takes over from Tim Hunter, who is leaving CCT after five years for a new role as CEO of Southern Discoveries based
in Queenstown.
CCT Board Chair Dave Hawkey says the board is delighted to have secured Mr Allen’s knowledge and experience to guide the
region’s tourism industry as it heads to a new tourism, events and economic development structure.
“Vic is well known to many in our industry as he has held a number of senior roles at Christchurch Airport and chaired
the Mt Hutt Marketing Group prior to his departure from New Zealand,” Mr Hawkey says. “He has broad experience in
marketing and market development, and an in-depth understanding of our region’s tourism priorities.”
Mr Allen says he is excited to be taking up the challenge of leading the regional tourism organisation into its next
phase.
“I am thrilled to have this opportunity. Tourism is one of the most exciting and vibrant industries in New Zealand, and
it provides a lot of jobs in the community,” he says.
Mr Allen will stay in the CCT CEO role until the city’s new tourism, events and economic development structure is
operational.
