Disruption to Bus Services

Disrpution to Bus Services
Thursday 4 February 2016

NZ Bus is currently in wage negotiations with Tramways and FIRST Union. While talks are progressing, no agreement has been reached. The unions announced today they are taking strike action tomorrow, Thursday 4 February 2016, to hold a meeting for all drivers.

This will impact Metrolink, North Star, Go West, Waka Pacific, City LINK and Outer LINK bus services between 9am and 2:30pm.

• Full services will run until 9am
• Inner LINK services (Green Links) will run between 9am and 2:30pm as normal
• Full services will resume from 2:30pm

NZ Bus drivers enjoy the best terms and conditions in Auckland today and the current offer of 1.7% will see real wages increase.

“We operate in a competitive landscape and we need to get the balance between increasing wages and remaining competitive”, said Shane McMahon, Chief Operating Officer Northern with NZ Bus.
Normally union meetings are held by depot so that services can be maintained and the travelling public are not impacted, but that is not the case this time.

“It’s a strange decision for the union leadership to take when most of our people are concerned about their jobs”, said Mr McMahon.

NZ Bus apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused to our customers during this time.
