Rabobank announces new head of Food & Agri Research

Rabobank Australia & New Zealand Group has announced the appointment of Tim Hunt as new General Manager of its Food & Agribusiness Research (FAR) division.

Mr Hunt takes on the role after five years with Rabobank in New York, where he served in the international position of Global Strategist – Dairy.

In his new role, Mr Hunt will lead Rabobank’s highly-regarded food and agri commodities research team – comprising 10 specialist analysts – in New Zealand and Australia.

Rabobank’s FAR division is a specialist unit within the bank, focused on undertaking research into the food and agribusiness sectors for the benefit of Rabobank’s clients – including comprehensive reports on sector and commodity outlooks, latest market trends and future industry developments. The local FAR team is part of a global network of approximately 80 research analysts across the bank.

Announcing the appointment, Rabobank Australia & New Zealand Group deputy managing director Peter Knoblanche said Mr Hunt brought a strong combination of global agribusiness experience and local knowledge of the New Zealand and Australian agri markets to the role, ensuring the continued market-leading strength of the bank’s food and agri research division in this region.

“In Tim’s position as global dairy strategist, he has had a very valuable international perspective on both the dairy industry and the agri sector more broadly,” Mr Knoblanche said. “In this role, he has been responsible for analysing developments in the global and regional dairy markets, developing Rabobank’s medium-term dairy forecasts and advising the bank on its engagement with the industry.

“This is coupled with lengthy experience in, and a strong understanding of, the New Zealand and Australian agricultural markets.”

A professional economist with more than 15 years’ experience in the agri sector, Mr Hunt previously served as Senior Dairy Analyst and Global Sector Team Leader for Rabobank in Australia and New Zealand, from 2004 to 2010.

Other previous roles included manager of Trade and Commodity Finance at ANZ, senior economist and sector team leader at LMC International in the United Kingdom and economist at the Industry Commission.

Mr Hunt holds an honours degree in commerce/economics from the University of Melbourne.

As General Manager of FAR, Rabobank Australia and New Zealand, Tim Hunt replaces Luke Chandler, who has left to take up a role in the United States.
