New app Primate is like ‘Tinder’ for friends

Primate is a friend finding app created by two kiwis. It works by searching for people in your area who are looking for friendship. You get shown a profile card that displays each user’s interests and what friendship qualities they are looking for. You swipe right if you are interested in friendship, or swipe left if you aren’t.

Chris Paulin, Co-founder of Primate said: “There are tons of dating apps out there, but none that cater directly for friendship with a fast and easy way to navigate. Primate allows you to make new friends on the bus, at university, on your lunch break or even travelling around New Zealand”.

When two users swipe right on each other, you both get notified and can start chatting in a private chat window. From there you can find out more about each other, and arrange a time to catch-up and hang out.

You can customise your search by the following: gender, age, location, education and interests. This allows our users to have a more tailored experience using the app. An example of this would be, a young professional looking to unwind is keen for someone to drink wine with, or a new mum has recently given birth and is looking for other new mums in the local area; or even a student new to town is looking for new friends. There are no limitations on how you could use the app.

Primate has been in development since March 2015, and was released in January this year. At present the app is only available to people living in New Zealand and Australia, with plans to roll out globally as it scales. Primate is free to use on both Android and Apple devices.
