Auditor General Recognised for Lifetime Contribution

AUDITOR-GENERAL RECOGNISED FOR LIFETIME CONTRIBUTION TO NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand Controller and Auditor-General, Mrs Lyn Provost has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to and exceptional leadership in the New Zealand public sector by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. This is the inaugural award for New Zealand. In 2016 it will become an annual trans-Tasman award.

Mrs Provost has demonstrated outstanding leadership and has made a major contribution to accountability in the public sector through her advocacy and leadership. She was the first female non-sworn Deputy Commissioner of New Zealand Police and has shown integrity and commitment to diversity and ethical behaviours in the work place throughout her career.

Country Head Kirsten Patterson said that Lyn Provost has shown exceptional leadership throughout her career. After studying at Victoria University of Wellington, she started working for the Audit Office (now Audit New Zealand) as an Assistant Auditor and completed her qualifications as a Chartered Accountant.

“Her advocacy for better financial reporting, work place and ethical behaviour and strategic thinking and management has contributed towards a prosperous nation.

“Through a range of senior roles, Lyn has and continues to provide independence and assurance to Parliament and the public about the true performance and accountability of public organisations,

“We are proud to award Lyn this prestigious award. She embodies the personal drive and integrity that this award seeks to recognise,”

“The work of the public service is essential to the future prosperity of all New Zealanders. We are pleased to provide this opportunity to recognise significant contributors from the engine room of the nation” Mrs Patterson said.

The Awards were held at the National Press Club in Canberra Australia. The evening concluded with a panel discussion on diversity, exploring issues of diversity around talent, markets and gender. Global Activist Sir Bob Geldof was the keynote speaker and joined a panel of industry experts in discussing the importance of diversity in leadership.

Sir Bob Geldof spoke about leadership, equality and diversity in his address to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He said that ‘diversity is the essence of the twenty first century’.

Panellists included: Global activist, Bob Geldof, Australian High Court Judge, The Honourable Justice Michael Kirby, Economist and Shadow Assistant Treasurer Dr Andrew Leigh MP, world renowned inspirational speaker on leadership, Ngahihi o te ra Bidois and Former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Christine Nixon.
