American Airlines’ new flight route a game changer

American Airlines’ new flight route a game changer, says House of Travel
Today’s announcement that American Airlines will begin flying from Auckland to LA from June 2016 will mean big changes for travel between America and New Zealand, according to House of Travel.
House of Travel Commercial Director Brent Thomas says having a new carrier to take passengers to and from the States is bound to lead to more competitive airfares across the pacific.
“Around 140,000 Kiwis travel to the States for holidays each year. We’re expecting that number to rise by about 15%, as capacity increases and airfare prices go down,” he says.
“American Airlines’ new flight route means Air New Zealand no longer has the monopoly on the American market. We’re sure to see some changes in airfare prices as the two airlines compete for customers who have not had a choice in airline for a number of years.”
Thomas says he expects the new service will be filled more by inbound traffic than outbound.
“American Airlines’ new flight route means there is no one airline with a monopoly on the direct to mainland America market. We’re sure to see some changes in airfare prices as the two airlines compete for customers who have not had a choice in airline for a number of years.”
House of Travel is the largest New Zealand owned and operated retail travel company, with 73 stores throughout New Zealand, from Kerikeri in the north to Invercargill in the south.
