Demand shoots up again for final
There was a massive increase in electricity demand during Sunday morning’s big All Blacks final against Australia. There was a large jump as people switched on to watch the match and an 80 MW jump at halftime. This is equivalent to a town the size of Taupo turning on all appliances, all at once.

Car v pole incidents dominated proceedings for Vector crews this week with crashes in Browns Bay, Otara, Papakura, Maraetai, Swanson and Ponsonby. Car v pillars occurred in Torbay and Snells Beach,
Crews also attended three house fires to isolate the electricity supply so fire service personnel could work safely in Otara, Henderson and Manurewa.
Gas
Damage was caused to our networks in Kingsland, Glenview, Onehunga, Devonport, Rotorua, Birkdale, New Lynn and Hamilton. In all instances, the damage was caused by third party contractors.
