Entries open for the 2016 NZ Dairy Awards
Entries open today for the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards, and Ravensdown Chief Executive, Greg Campbell, says it is times like these that really set contestants and farm businesses apart.
“The awards will be a real test of farming within your limits under the current economic climate and with another El Nino predicted to be on its way,” Greg said
Greg acknowledged that during tight times, entering a competition is probably the last thing on farmers’ minds but he believes that’s when we really benefit from putting ourselves in the ring.
“It forces you to focus on fine-tuning your business, all the while having access to rural professionals who can give you valuable feedback.”
The competition has been opened up to
more dairy farmers, encouraging entrants to progress in the
dairy industry through the award categories.
Greg says
he will be interested to see what farm practices come out on
top next year, with most farmers focusing on their pasture
and developing financial strategies to get them through the
next few seasons.
“Getting the most out of your pasture will not only be a key factor in getting farmers through the low dairy pay-out, but a deciding factor in the Share Farmer of the Year competition. Ravensdown will be looking to award the best-performing pastures at both the regional and national level.”
“Ravensdown has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to maximising your pasture return, so if you want to get a head start on your pasture for this competition give your local Agri Manager a call. You can also check out some tips from our soil and pasture expert Dr Ants Roberts on our YouTube channel.”
“We’re proud to sponsor this competition and be a part of continually improving the dairy industry for generations to come. We hope to see you at the National Final in Wellington in May 2016
