Dynamic businesses competing for Enterprising Rural Women Awards 2015

Eleven dynamic and innovative businesses are in the running for the Rural Women New Zealand Enterprising Rural Women Awards 2015.

“This is the seventh year we’ve held the Enterprising Rural Women Awards,” says Rural Women National President, Wendy McGowan. “We’re starting to see an emerging trend of dynamic rural businesses being run by women to meet the needs of the rural community but with wider appeal to urban residents and tourists.”

“We’re excited to see that the gradual rollout of broadband into rural communities is increasing business opportunities for rural enterprises to thrive online, even when operating from remote locations.

Through the Enterprising Rural Women Awards, Rural Women NZ raises awareness of women’s entrepreneurship and their input into rural communities, creating local employment and often supplementing on-farm income.

The judges now face the challenging task of selecting the winners of the four entry categories: Love of the Land, Help I Need Somebody, Making it in Rural and Stay, Play, Rural.

The four category winners will go on to compete for the title of Supreme winner, Enterprising Rural Women Awards 2015.

Entries in this year’s Love of the Land category include a plant nursery and orchard contracting services.

The highly competitive Help I Need Somebody section includes a fitness trainer, a counsellor, farm safety services, a clothing retailer and a rural broadband supplier.

Competing in the Making it in Rural section is a media publisher and a producer of skincare products.

Tourism operators in the Stay, Play Rural section include an events and functions estate and a bike tour operator.

The winners will be announced at a special ceremony to be held on the opening night of the Rural Women NZ national conference in Nelson on Saturday 21st November.
