Auckland investment
presentation receives international recognition
An immersive multimedia presentation promoting investment opportunities in Auckland has won a prestigious international economic development award.
The presentation – created for Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development (ATEED) by renowned technology innovator Ian Taylor and his company Animation Research Ltd – was recognised at a ceremony held this week as part of the 2015 International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Annual Conference in Anchorage, Alaska.
Auckland’s investor presentation won a silver ‘IEDC Excellence in Economic Development’ award in the multimedia/video promotion category for cities with a population greater than 500,000.
Patrick McVeigh, ATEED General Manager Business, Innovation & Skills, says: “The presentation uses innovative fly through technology and digital animation to tell Auckland’s story.
“It positions Auckland
as a ‘city of convergence’ built on three majestic
harbours, shares the region’s rich and colourful past
alongside a vision for its future, and profiles key
investment opportunities in Auckland to generate further
economic growth.”
Ian Taylor, who unveiled the
presentation at Auckland’s 175th anniversary celebrations
at The Cloud in January, says: “The video had to be
produced in a very tight time frame, but fortunately we were
able to use a lot of the 3D modelling of Auckland that we
had done with ATEED around events such as the Rugby World
Cup 2011, the Volvo Ocean Race stopover, and the America’s
Cup showcase for San Francisco in 2013.
“We also couldn’t have done it without the tremendous support we had from architects and designers in Auckland who provided us with work they had done for their individual projects. Seeing it all come together I would have to say, as an outsider, the future of Auckland looked very cool.”
The presentation showcases opportunities in Auckland to international investors and businesses. Since its premiere, a version with subtitles has been developed for use in meetings with Chinese business people – one of Auckland’s key trade and investment markets. The presentation has been used by ATEED to help connect with influential business audiences.
