Golden Bay success story

Golden Bay success story as HealthPost reaches two major milestones

New Zealand’s largest natural health and skincare online shop, HealthPost, has reached two major milestones – more than $500,000 given in donations and three million products shipped around New Zealand and internationally.

“We are very proud of what our team has achieved,” says HealthPost’s Chair Peter Butler, “especially given we are still based in Golden Bay and family owned.”

Today HealthPost employs 85 people, the majority of whom live and work in Golden Bay, and a small number who staff the office and retail outlet in Auckland’s New Lynn.

“What’s really different about our charity fundraising is that we donate from our operating revenue. In other words, we don’t add the donations on to what the customers are charged at the checkout. Of course the fact that we have such fantastically loyal customers means that we are in a position to give in a sustainable way.

“We believe the wellness of the individual is always connected to the health of the broader community and the natural environment,” says Peter. “HealthPost’s Better World campaign is now an entrenched and vital part of our business philosophy. HealthPost customers elect which of several nominated charities will receive a $1 donation from us when they make a purchase from our online shop. We have a rotating ‘charity of the month’ and a long-standing charity selection allowing us to contribute substantially to a specific cause. This is currently in support of World Vision’s Zambian Health Centre project.”

Chris Clarke, World Vision CEO, is truly grateful for the generosity of HealthPost and their customers. “Zambia is one of the poorest countries in the world so by bringing together the HealthPost community with the Zambian community, we are able to significantly improve access to healthcare for 6000 residents. Once the Health Centre is operational, people will no longer need to walk from six to nine hours to gain healthcare and wait for up to 12 hours to be seen. This is especially critical for women who are giving birth, the elderly and the very ill.”

Research commissioned by Philanthropy New Zealand, highlights the fact that Kiwis are a very benevolent group, giving a total $2.67 billion in 2011. The World Giving Index places New Zealand in the top two for charitable donations, volunteering and random acts of kindness.
