Newmarket in good shape for new board
September 25, 2015:
The Newmarket Business Association (NBA) held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening (24 September) at Mini Garage on Broadway. The meeting was attended by a mixture of retailers, business owners and landlords as well as Waitemata Local Board representatives Shale Chambers and Pippa Coom, and Auckland Council representative, Steven Branca.
NBA CEO, Mark-Knoff Thomas welcomed the members before handing over to Chair, Bridget Smith.
The meeting was very positive with the overall feeling that the NBA is in good shape. Knoff-Thomas was appointed in July 2014 with a clear change mandate from the board - and change is what has been delivered.
“Newmarket is in good hands and going from strength to strength” said Smith.
According to Paymark data, for the year to June 2015 total retail spend in Newmarket has leapt up 7.5% - the precinct’s best trading year since pre-GFC.
No election was held this year as there were eight board nominees for eight positions. The new board is (in alphabetical order): Brian Chen (Bliss Reflexology), Rachel Dovey (Bayley’s Real Estate), Shane Gorst (Make A Wish), Mark Hill-Rennie (ANZ), James Nelson (Scentre Group), Megan Sadgrove (Smith & Caughey’s), Bridget Smith ( sbm Legal) and Carl Sowter (Marley Loft). Three former board members did not stand for re-selection: Joanna Legat, Greg Holland and Ryan Watkins.
