August New Vehicle Registrations Still in High Gear
John Manley, President of the Motor Industry Association says
“The new vehicle market continues to defy general economic indicators with sales in August up 10% on August 2014 and delivering a steady 5% growth for the year to date”.
Total new vehicle registrations for August are up 10 percent (1003 vehicles) on August 2014. Toyota remained the overall market leader for the month of August with 21 percent market share (2,302 vehicles) followed by Ford with 11 percent (1,226 vehicles) and Holden with 9 percent market share (1,016 vehicles). Year to date Toyota, Holden and Ford remain the overall market leaders.
New passenger car registrations of 7,752 vehicles in August were up 669 units (9.4 percent) on August 2014 sales of 7,083 vehicles, and was the strongest month of August since 1986. Toyota remains the market leader for passenger vehicles with 20 percent market share (1,512 vehicles) followed by Mazda with 10 percent (743 vehicles) and Holden with 9 percent market share (721 vehicles). Year to date, Toyota, Holden and Mazda remain the passenger vehicle market leaders. Having been displaced in recent months, the Toyota Corolla was once again the top selling passenger model for the month of August (621 vehicles) followed by the Toyota RAV4 (269 vehicles) and the Mazda 3 (240 vehicles).
New commercial vehicle registrations of 3,440 vehicles in August were up 334 vehicles (10.8 percent) compared to August 2014. Ford was the commercial vehicle leader for the month of August with 24 percent market share (813 vehicles), followed by Toyota with 23 percent (790 vehicles) and Holden with 9 percent market share (295 vehicles).
The Ford Ranger remained the monthly top selling commercial vehicle model with 735 vehicles registered, followed by the Toyota Hilux with 543 vehicles and Holden Colorado with 285 vehicles. Year to date the Ford Ranger remains the top selling commercial vehicle model with 16 percent market share (4,228 vehicles) followed by the Hilux with 14 percent (3,572 vehicles) and the Holden Colorado with 9 percent market share (2,391 vehicles).
The Ford Ranger is the top model overall for the month of August with 735 vehicles followed by the Toyota Corolla with 621 vehicles and the Toyota Hilux with 543 vehicles. They are also the top three models year to date, however the Hilux remains above the Corolla.
The sales of sports utility vehicles remains the dominant vehicle segment with 34 percent market share for the month of August and 33 percent year to date. The Pick-up/Chassis Cab segment was the second strongest segment with 22 percent for the month of August and 21 percent market share year to date. The small passenger vehicle segment was the third biggest segment on 15 percent market share for the month of August and 14 percent year to date.
“Given the year to date sales position it is likely the industry will break the 130,000 unit barrier in 2015 for the first time ever” said Mr Manley.
