Wanaka Influencer Programme attracts global applicants

Wanaka Influencer Programme attracts applicants from around the world

Wanaka, New Zealand (31 August 2015)
– An exciting and innovative initiative of Lake Wanaka Tourism (LWT) the Wanaka Influencer Programme (WIP), has piqued the interest of the global social media community.

With applications for the first round of submissions closing today, (August 31) the LWT team have been inundated with quality proposals from around the world.

The WIP invited digital influencers to apply to ‘live-like-a-local’ for a period of up to ten weeks and will cover their accommodation and the cost of various activities in the region. In return these influencers will share images and stories of their time in the region with their fans and followers.

Applicants are from Lake Wanaka’s key markets, including Australia, UK, the US, Germany and France.

LWT General Manager, James Helmore is thrilled with the response.

“With Instagram being our number one social media platform, we have been working very closely with social influencers, who inspire their audiences with incredible imagery and first person stories of Wanaka.

“Social media channels are a trusted and for many consumers, the first source of travel information and this programme will be a very cost effective way for us to build awareness, effectively reaching a global market that are looking for inspiration and are ready to make travel decisions.”

Earlier this year LWT staged a very successful Instameet, a first of its kind in New Zealand, hosting some of the world’s top social influencers which delivered coverage for the town with an EAV of well over $2 million and reached a worldwide audience in the millions.
