Bid process important for UFB2 tender
InternetNZ is pleased to see that the Government is pressing on with its commitment to connect more New Zealanders to
UltraFast Broadband (UFB) Fibre networks, with today's opening of bids for fibre network builders to build these
extensions.
Jordan Carter, Chief Executive of InternetNZ, says fibre is a game changing technology that allows New Zealanders to
experience the very best of the Internet.
"We are always keen of any initiative that provides better Internet connectivity to more New Zealanders," says Mr
Carter.
While InternetNZ is happy to see progress continuing to be made, there remains some points of detail that are vitally
important to clarify.
"Plenty of New Zealanders are excited about being connected to fibre - but are frustrated by how long they're having to
wait to get it.
"We hope the Government will carefully negotiate with potential fibre network builders to ensure that New Zealander's
expectations are being met in a reasonable timeframe," says Mr Carter.
Competition between fibre network builders is also essential to ensure that the fibre is deployed efficiently, and to as
many New Zealanders as possible.
"The Government needs to remain vigilant - seek meaningful, competitive bids from fibre builders and hold them to
account for delivery of these bids," says Mr Carter.
