Central NZers to benefit from Jetstar’s new regional network
Jetstar today announced its new regional network, launching low fare services to Nelson, Napier, New Plymouth and Palmerston North.
“Jetstar’s regional route announcement today is a significant moment in aviation for New Zealand. The competition and choice for those central New Zealand locations will be transformative for tourism, business connectivity and leisure travel,” said Steve Sanderson, Wellington Airport’s Chief Executive.
“The Capital has seen Jetstar grow to 1.25 million seats a year. They have already cut the cost of travel between New Zealand's main centres and proven themselves as sustainable competitors.”
“Jetstar will provide new avenues for tourism around central New Zealand and greatly contribute towards the Tourism Industry Association 2025 goal of regional dispersal; ensuring tourists have the diverse range of options they are looking for around the country and grow travel markets,” said Mr Sanderson.
“Competition is great for consumers and will provide choice and flexibility that has not always been available. It is now important that Kiwis share their travel dollar to promote sustainable competition.”
Wellington Airport now have Jetstar on 7 domestic routes in New Zealand with the new service to Nelson adding 109,000 seats to Wellington’s domestic market.
“We value our working relationship and will continue to support Jetstar and its plans for growth in New Zealand.”
Jetstar recently launched Gold Coast and Melbourne routes out of Wellington which added 130,000 seats to Wellington’s international market. Earlier this month Jetstar announced a new route between Wellington and Dunedin commencing October 28. The Nelson - Wellington service will offer a regular lead-in fare of $45 and will operate 21 flights per week.
