Nation of DIY Baristas
Canstar Blue has released the findings of their most recent survey into the habits of Kiwis and their at-home espresso machines, revealing that we are a nation of DIY baristas. Close to half of New Zealanders say that they prefer the coffee they make at home to that bought in a café.
Other interesting findings include:
• 48% said that they are drinking more coffee since they purchased their espresso machine. This is especially common amongst men who are not only drinking it more (51%) but also enjoying it more than professionally made brews (56%), compared to women (41%).
• The majority of Kiwis are also fairly confident in their barista abilities (78%), especially when making coffee for guests
• 70% of New Zealanders said that they have saved a lot of money by no longer purchasing café-made coffees
• Wellingtonians are the most likely to get withdrawal headaches when they cut down on their coffee consumption (28%)
• Otago has the highest proportion of 5 cups a day drinkers (32%)
• Thirty seven per cent of Aucklanders use their coffee machines daily and some are using it more than once a day (18%)
• Eighteen per cent of Kiwis only buy organic coffee beans/grinds, but men are the most conscious of where their beans are coming from (25%) compared to women (10%)
