New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that some pressure eased off the longer fleece types at today’s auction at Christchurch. This reflected more supply and subdued demand.
There was a large percentage of fleece offered today, combined with Coarse Second Shear and smaller volumes of Halfbred and Merino.
Crossbred Fleece was generally 2 to 3 percent cheaper, Second Shear firm to 1 percent cheaper as were the finer Crossbred types. Halfbreds and Merinos attracted good support from a full bench of buyers.
There was good general competition from China, Western Europe and Australasia.
Next sale on the 27th August comprises approximately 7,500 bales from the South Island.
