NZICA Successful in Defence Against CPA Australia Claim

New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) successful in defence against CPA Australia claim

The Judgment in the matter of CPA Australia and NZICA, heard in the New Zealand High Court in Wellington, was released by Justice Robert Dobson today.

Justice Dobson found that NZICA was successful in its defence against both the allegations made by CPA Australia of defamation and breach of the Fair Trading Act. Accordingly, the relief sought by CPA Australia (declaration of defamation and monetary damages) was denied.

This matter dates back to well before the amalgamation of NZICA and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia to become Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

Lee White CEO, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand said: “We are pleased that our defence was successful. We are keen to continue our focus on the work of the new organisation and will continue to support our team and our members as we move into exciting times for the Chartered Accounting profession.”
