Halberg Sport for Life Dinner raises $113,000
A massive $113,000 was last night raised by guests at the second annual Sport for Life charity dinner, hosted by the Harcourts Foundations to benefit the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation.
The stars of the evening were the children who took to the stage in front of several hundred guests at the event at SKYCITY Convention Centre, to talk about how the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation has helped them, from coaching, to encouraging them into new sports and new equipment.
The attendees gave generously through donations, both live and silent auctions called by current REINZ national auction champion Andrew North from Harcourts Cooper & Co, and Harcourts national auctioneer Chris Kennedy.
Every cent of the money raised at The Harcourts Foundation Halberg Sport for Life dinner goes to the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation. At the end of the night Harcourts NZ CEO Hayden Duncan handed over a cheque from the Harcourts Foundation for the $113,000 to Halberg Disability Sport Foundation.
The charity, set up by Sir Murray Halberg, helps enhance the lives of physically disabled New Zealanders through sport and recreation, including providing grants for adaptive sports equipment.
As well as an opportunity to hear the children who benefit from the Halberg, Sky Sport commentator Scotty Stevenson hosted a panel discussion featuring former Black Cap captain Stephen Fleming, former Warriors player Steve Price, New Zealand Rugby Sevens Coach Gordon Tietjens and Paralympic Skier Corey Peters.
The Harcourts Foundation is an official partner of the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation. Harcourts Foundation ambassador Emma Revell says the partnership was formed after many of the Harcourts team witnessed first-hand the incredible difference Halberg makes to the lives of disabled Kiwis and their families.
“To see the positive affect the Foundation has on these kids is remarkable. To see them be able to fulfil their potential and grow in confidence makes our support of the Halberg Disability Foundation a simple decision.
“The Harcourts Foundation has huge admiration for the work Halberg does and it is humbling to be able to support them with funding through events such as the Sport for Life dinner.”
