New Zealand Wool Services International Limited’s General Manager, Mr John Dawson reports that despite a slightly stronger New Zealand dollar wool prices were firm to slightly dearer. With less wool available due to weather affecting shearing and vacation related shipping requirements this has helped underpin prices.
The weighted indicator for the main trading currencies increased 0.99 percent week on week.
Of the 7,905 bales on offer 96.2 percent sold.
Mr Dawson advises that compared to the last South Island sale on 16th July, Mid Micron Fleece were 2 to 4 percent dearer. Compared to the last sale in the North Island on 23rd July, Find Crossbred Fleece and longer shears were 2 to 4 percent dearer.
Coarse Crossbred Fleece were firm to 2.5 percent firmer with shears firm to 2 percent stronger.
Coarse Long Oddments were firm with good colour short oddments firm to 2 percent dearer.
Good competition with China continuing to dominate, supported by Australasia, Western Europe, Middle East and India.
Next sale on 6th August comprises approximately 5,200 bales from the South Island.
